How do I donate records to the Archives of Manitoba?
Please, do not drop your records off before contacting us!
All potential acquisitions offered to the Archives of Manitoba, including the Hudson’s Bay Company Archives, are assessed to determine whether the records have permanent value and whether they should be acquired and preserved by the Archives of Manitoba. An acquisition committee meets on a regular basis to assess and make a recommendation on all potential acquisitions. The Archivist of Manitoba approves all acquisition decisions.
Archivists need pertinent information about the records and the creator(s) of the records in order to assess their archival value. Donors will be asked to provide the following information, where possible:
- a list of the records being offered, e.g. file titles, dates of records, etc.,
- biographical or historical information on the person, family or organization that created the records being offered.
Contact the Archives of Manitoba at acquisition@gov.mb.ca or 945-3971 for further information. Contact the Hudson’s Bay Company Archives if you would like information on donating records of or related to the Hudson’s Bay Company.
