Records of Manitoban individuals, families and organizations
The Archives of Manitoba acquires and preserves records of permanent value created by individuals, families, organizations, businesses and community groups in Manitoba. Records date from the Red River Settlement days to the present and include correspondence, journals and diaries, organizational records, photographs, posters and documentary art, moving image records (films, videos, etc.) and sound recordings, cartographic records and architectural plans.

Records of or related to the Hudson’s Bay Company
The Archives of Manitoba, through the Hudson’s Bay Company Archives, acquires and preserves both corporate and personal records relating to the history of the Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC).

What doesn’t the Archives of Manitoba collect?
The Archives of Manitoba does not usually collect the following:
- publications
- artifacts
- discrete items
- duplicates
- copies
- records still required by an individual or organization for their everyday activities or for legal reasons
- records consisting entirely of extremely sensitive or personal information including financial records, income tax returns, passports, birth certificates
The Archives of Manitoba is looking for records of significance to the province of Manitoba. Other archives in Manitoba may be more suitable repositories for some records. For records from other provinces, contact the provincial archives in that province.
