We acknowledge that the Archives of Manitoba is located on Treaty 1 Territory and that Manitoba is located on the Treaty Territories and ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Anishininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline and Nehethowuk Nations. We acknowledge Manitoba is located on the Homeland of the Red River Métis. We acknowledge northern Manitoba includes lands that were and are the ancestral lands of the Inuit.
We acknowledge that the records at the Archives of Manitoba document life on these lands and beyond including the records in the Hudson’s Bay Company Archives, which extend to Treaty and Unceded Territories across what is now known as Canada, as well as traditional Indigenous territories in other parts of the world.
We acknowledge that the records we house document colonialism and its harms and that our policies and practices are rooted in a colonial perspective. We are committed to preserving evidence of the past and to working in ways that advance truth and reconciliation.
