Hudson’s Bay Company Archives Library

The Hudson’s Bay Company Archives' library is a valuable resource containing thousands of books, articles and periodicals relating to:

• The Hudson’s Bay Company and the fur trade
• Indigenous peoples of North America
• The history of western Canada, the USA and the Arctic; and
• The Beaver magazine

The library also contains a rare book collection which includes a portion of the personal library of fur trader Peter Fidler (1769-1822), and books from libraries kept at various trading posts, including York Factory.

The HBCA library is a non-circulating library and can only be accessed from our Research Room at the Archives of Manitoba building in Winnipeg. Furthermore, items in the rare book collection may only be viewed by appointment. Contact hbca@gov.mb.ca to arrange an appointment.
