Sport Event Hosting Program

The Sport Event Hosting Program supports eligible sport organizations in hosting amateur championships and tournaments across Manitoba.
Objectives:
- Develop and Strengthen the Sport Sector in Manitoba:
- Foster the growth and development of the sports sector by providing essential support to sport organizations hosting amateur championships and tournaments.
- Support the Performance of Manitoba Athletes:
- Enhance the performance and competitive opportunities for Manitoba athletes by facilitating the organization of high-quality sporting events.
- Build Manitoba’s Profile in the National and International Sport Community:
- Showcase Manitoba's vibrant sports culture and talent on national and international stages, contributing to the province's recognition in the broader sport community.
- Increase Opportunity for Manitoba Sport Organizations to Host Events:
- Encourage and empower local sport organizations, including not-for-profits, temporary committees, and affiliated colleges/universities, to host a diverse range of events that benefit the community.
We are committed to achieving these objectives by providing financial assistance, guidance, and support to eligible organizations.

Eligibility:
See the Sport Event Hosting Program Application Guidelines (PDF) for a List of eligible and ineligible organizations, events, and costs.
Levels of Assistance:
SEH will cover eligible event costs on a sliding scale to a maximum of $15,000.00 per event (see Application Guidelines).
Successful applicants may receive less than the above amounts contingent on program demand.
Requests that exceed $15,000.00 may be considered for funding under exceptional circumstances, such as multisport games, international championships, or special one-time hosting opportunities. Applicants should contact the Sport and Tourism Policy Branch for additional information as soon as possible prior to the event.
Deadlines:
Applications are due as follows:
- March 22, 2024 for events taking place between April 1, 2024 to September 30, 2024
- July 1, 2024* for events taking place between October 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025
* A new application process for the Sport Event Hosting Program is being piloted in 2024-2025. Adjustments may be made to program guidelines as determined by the department.
The Department reserves the right to consider events taking place between April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, in either intake period.

- Ensure your organization and event align with the necessary requirements.
- Complete Application Form:
- Fill out the application form with accurate details about your sports event.
- Include all required supporting documents, as specified in the guidelines.
- Submission Deadline:
- Be aware of the fixed deadlines for submissions:
- March 22, 2024, for events between April 1, 2024, to September 30, 2024.
- July 1, 2024, for events between October 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025.
