Amateur Sport
Sport Manitoba
Sport Manitoba is the leading planning, programming, and funding agency for the development of amateur sport in Manitoba, and the gateway to accessing many amateur sport programs and services. Sport Manitoba provides support to, and is in partnership with, over 100 sport-related organizations, including over 60 sport-specific Provincial Sport Organizations (PSOs). PSOs are independent, not-for-profit, board-run organizations responsible for developing their unique sport.
Located at 145 Pacific Avenue in Winnipeg, Sport Manitoba is also responsible for programs including the Manitoba Games powered by Manitoba Hydro, Sport Manitoba Coaching, Team Manitoba, Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame, Fit Kids Healthy Kids, and KidSport. Services provided include the Sport Manitoba Clinic, Sport Manitoba Performance, Sport Manitoba Fitness Centre, and court and flex space rentals.

Other Amateur Sport
Various independent sport clubs and academies operate across the province that provide alternative sporting opportunities. These organizations may operate under a for-profit or a not-for-profit model. As independent entities, these clubs and teams are not typically affiliated with a PSO or with Sport Manitoba and thus not subject to the same structure of oversight as PSOs.
However, clubs and academies may maintain standards in line with a provincial, national, or international sport federation, especially if that sport is not represented by a PSO in Manitoba. Manitobans looking to get involved in sport through an independent club, team or academy are encouraged to review the organization’s coaching accreditation standards and safe sport policies.
University/College Sport
Manitoba is the home of many exciting USports and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAA) programs. Athletes from various universities and colleges compete and represent their school in a wide variety of sports. Many of these teams and athletes have gone on to represent our province on national and international stages.

Western Hockey League
The Western Hockey League (WHL) is a stepping stone for many elite Junior hockey players that will go on to play at the professional level, including in the American Hockey League (AHL) and National Hockey League (NHL). Brandon, Manitoba is proud to be home to the Brandon Wheat Kings.
