Chief Provincial Psychiatrist / Director of Psychiatric Services

Provides expert psychiatric consultation regarding all aspects of mental health practice, policy, programming and legislation. The Chief Provincial Psychiatrist is also responsible for the administration of the Mental Health Act of Manitoba.

Mental Health and Addictions Treatment and Recovery Branch

Provides strategic leadership on provincial policy development, services and system planning and advice in the areas of treatment and continuing care related to mental health and addictions. The branch works with service delivery organizations and community partners to strengthen mental health and addiction services across Manitoba.

Mental Health Promotion and Harm Reduction

Provides strategic leadership for provincial system planning and policy development as it relates to mental health promotion, harm reduction and early response supports for children and youth. The branch works with service delivery organizations and community partners to improve mental health and harm reduction services in the province.

Mental Health Review Board

An independent quasi-judicial body that hears appeals about the admission or treatment of a patient in a psychiatric facility and undertakes automatic reviews of all long-term involuntary patient and patients on extended leave certificates.

Corporate and Strategic Services Branch

Coordinate legislation, reports and briefing materials for executive management. Supports the department in strategic planning, accountability and performance evaluation, program management, strategy planning and implementation of policies, programs and service enhancements.

Manitoba Housing

The Manitoba Housing and Renewal Corporation (Manitoba Housing) is a Crown Corporation within the Department of Housing, Addictions and Homelessness. Manitoba Housing receives policy direction from the Manitoba government. The Deputy Minister of the Department of Housing, Addictions and Homelessness serves as Chair of the Board of Directors. Manitoba Housing provides housing assistance to approximately 35,000 households through various programs. In fulfilling its mandate, Manitoba Housing has capacity to: construct and develop new and affordable housing; rehabilitate existing housing; acquire and dispose of land and/or buildings; provide grants and loans for housing projects.
